Horses Need Their Teeth Correctly Aligned

If your horse is fighting the bit, losing food when he eats or taking too long to eat his food, he may be Trying to Tell You Something!

Horse’s teeth do not meet like two bricks coming together. They meet at an angle which cause sharp points on the bottom inside and top outside, which irritate the inside of the jaw and tongue.

Never fear! This is easy to correct. In order to achieve the best results, the horse is given adequate sedation. After the horse is sedated, a device is inserted into the horse’s mouth to keep it from chewing on your veterinarian’s hand while he uses proper instruments to smooth down the sharp and jagged surface of the teeth. After doing this, he will make needed adjustments to assure that the teeth will properly meet.

So if it looks like your horse could use a visit from the dentist, call the staff at Umatilla Animal Hospital for further information or to make an appointment.
